Williams joins Pirates
The BATT Academy is happy to announce that one of their own, Anthony Williams, has accepted a position with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization for the 2011 sesaon. He will join the Pirates front office working in Video and Advanced Scouting.
Anthony has successfully coached at UMBC and Frostburg State University and has been a long time member and instructor here at the BATT. Congrats and best of luck Anthony!

Pease signs with Padres
The San Diego Padres have signed Dustin Pease to a minor league contract for the 2011 season.
Pease began last season with the Wichita Wingnuts of the American Association where he was named the team’s pitcher of the year. He also set the league record for appearances in a season. Pease finished 2010 with the York Revolution who went on to win the Atlantic League Championship. He has been pitching professionally since 2007 including stints with the Kansas City Royals, Winnipeg Goldeyes, and Windy City Thunderbolts, in addition to Wichita and York.
Pease played high school baseball at local Archbishop Spalding and went on to pitch at NCAA Division I Mt. St. Mary’s where he holds several career pitching records.
Pease has been long affiliated with the BATT, as a member growing up, and now as one of our best pitching instructors. Dustin takes the time to work with pitchers of all ages each off-season and has made a positive impact on developing players here at the BATT. We all know the hard work and dedication Dustin has put in to pursuing his dream and we wish him nothing but the best of luck. Congrats Dustin!
Pro Ball Tryout @ the BATT March 6th
Professional Baseball Tryout
There will be a one-day Professional Tryout at The BATT Academy on Sunday, March 6th. This tryout is for PITCHERS AND CATCHERS ONLY! Attending will be representatives from several MLB affiliates, as well as representatives from various Independent Leagues including American Association, Atlantic League, Frontier League and the CanAm League.
The cost of the camp is $100 per player if you pre-register online by Friday February 25th. Late registration (after 2/25/11) will be $150.
Kendall moving up to AA Bowie
We would like to send a special congratulations to long time BATT instructor Gary Kendall on being named Manager of the Bowie Baysox (AA Orioles) for the upcoming 2011 season.
Kendall has spent the last ten seasons coaching in the Orioles organization at various levels including Bluefield (rookie) Aberdeen (Short-Season A) and Delmarva (Low A) in additon to running the Orioles extended spring training in Florida. Managing the Baysox who compete in the Eastern League will mark Kendall’s first season at the AA level.
Gary has been a big part of the BATT family for a long time and continues to play a role in helping us develop players in this area. Whether it’s a high school or college player trying to reach the next level or an 8 year old who dreams of being a big leaguer, Gary spends time working with players of all ages, throws batting practice every Monday and occasionally will hold free clinics here at the BATT.
Gary, thank you for all of your dedication and support here at the BATT, and we look forward to seeing some games in Bowie this year. Congratulations and best of luck this upcoming season!

SAS & Boot Camp starting in January
Our SAS and bootcamp programs will be resuming after the New Year. The Pitcher’s Boot Camp will start back up on Sunday January 2nd at 10am. For high school players looking for an SAS class, we will begin a new session on Monday January 3rd at 7:30pm. This class will be an 8 week course on Mondays and Wednesday from 7:30-8:30pm. The deadline for joining the course will be Wednesday January 5th, the end of the first week. Set Some Records This Off-Season
BATT Challenge in 2011
This winter we want to see who our competitors are!! We will be starting a BATT Leaderboard for different athletic challenges beginning January 2011. See how you stack up to the competition! To request a challenge, simply ask a BATT staff member during your next visit and they will monitor your performance. If you are worthy, we will put your standing record on our leaderboard. Leaders will be announced in our monthly newsletter, allowing coaches, parents, and other competitors see who is at the top. Some of the challenges include:
- 30 yd dash, Vertical Leap, Pro Agility, Broad Jump, 300 yd shuttle, Pullups, Pushups, Situps, BATT Obstacle Course, & more to come…
