Little League World Series Debate…
Little League WS Debate
The end of summer usually means most youngsters are finishing up their little league seasons. For a select group of teams, their summer seasons finish up in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, the site of the Little League World Series. Millions tune in to ESPN to watch some of the best little league players and teams in the world. It’s a tremendous experience for the young baseball players involved but it also is a great opportunity to increase exposure to the sport in an era when kids have so many other things occurring in their daily lives. The Importance of Getting Ahead in the Count for Hitters
| As a hitter I always found that it was much easier to hit when I was ahead in the count, for example 2-0 or 3-0 opposed to hitting behind in the count like 0-2 or 1-2. Many guys get in the habit of taking too many pitches and before they know it they are behind in the count and at the pitchers mercy. Once you get yourself behind in the count it is much more difficult to dig yourself out. The chart below shows the averages of what guys hit when they’re 0-2 and after, as well as the averages at 3-0 and after. This shows that hitters that get ahead of the count have much better success then when they are behind. Many pitchers will try and steal an early strike so look for it and hit it! -Matt Acevedo

Pro Ball Update 6/28/10
Q & A with Dustin Pease: Life on the Road
Here at the BATT Academy we have players from all backgrounds come into train. They are different ages, different positions, different talent levels, and different personalities. But one thing remains constant, they all want to be professional baseball players. During the offseason we have dozens players who are free agents working as hard as they can every day hoping they will get another year in pro ball, or for some a chance to prove themselves at the professional level for the first time.
Whatever the outcome of the offseason training, our staff at the BATT Academy actively stays in touch with our players. Our Matt Acevedo took the time to speak with Dustin Pease, whose hard work in the offseason landed him another year in professional baseball playing with the Wichita Wingnuts in the American Association. We asked him about life on the road.
M.A. – What is the one thing that you like the most about road trips?
D.P. – Probably getting to see new places and try new foods.
M.A. – What is the one thing that you like the least about road trips?
D.P. – There’s not really that much to do on the road and long bus rides.
M.A. – What is the longest road trip you have ever been on?
D.P. – The longest road trip was a 16 hour road trip from Winnipeg to Chicago. We had bunk beds on the bus but it was still uncomfortable.
M.A. – Where’s the best and worst place you have been on the road?
D.P. – The best place I have ever been was Kansas City , Kansas to play the Kansas City T Bones and the worst place has to be Gary Indiana.
M.A. – What do you eat the most on the road?
D.P. – Generally I eat a lot of fast food because you’re always being rushed whether it’s to and from the stadium or games end late so your choices are limited, although I have currently been getting a lot of Papa John’s Pizza.
M.A. – By the end of your career, where is the one ball park you hope to be playing in?
D.P. – Oriole Park Camden Yards.
Dustin thank you for your time. Follow Dustin at Wichita Wingnuts Baseball. Please check back for more Q & A’s with the professional baseball players that make BATT Academy their home in the offseason.
